Our responsibility: sustainability.
Unleashing a cleaner, sustainable future for all.
With biofuels and alternative fuels, we are paving the path to a sustainable future.
In the face of escalating climate change and its profound implications on the planet, decarbonization is a paramount objective.
We, as Fratelli Cosulich Marine Energy, are committed to drive the shipping transition towards a low/zero carbon future.
Within the Group, we are developing a long-term strategies and investing in assets which will contribute to reach the low emissions target set by the shipping Industry. The journey towards a sustainable future implies a multi-level approach that includes decarbonization by the adoption of biofuels and exploration of alternative fuels.
The importance of alternative fuels and biofuels lies in their ability to diversify the energy mix and to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. This diversification not only helps in mitigating climate change but also enhances energy resilience and sustainability. Promoting research and development in these fields will lead to technological advancements, making these sources more efficient, cost-effective, and widely accessible.
By embracing these alternatives and investing in sustainable technologies, at Fratelli Cosulich Marine Energy, we continue our contribution to paving the path towards a cleaner, more sustainable world, lessening the dire impacts of climate change and securing a better future for generations to come.
Our commitment to sustainability
In the quest for a more sustainable and eco-friendly future, the bunker industry has been making remarkable strides.
At Fratelli Cosulich Marine Energy, we are at the forefront of this environmentally conscious path.
Our drive towards sustainability and our commitment to enhance environmentally responsible practices is powered by alternative fuels such as biofuels, LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), methanol and ammonia, each with its own unique advantages.
Our sustainability approach is driven by a combination of stricter environmental regulations, the need to reduce carbon emissions and a growing sense of corporate responsibility. As more shipping companies seek cleaner alternatives, biofuels, LNG, methanol and ammonia are becoming increasingly relevant in the bunker industry.
While each of these fuels has unique attributes and challenges, they collectively represent a path toward a more sustainable future for global shipping, aligning with international efforts to combat climate change and protect the environment. At Fratelli Cosulich Marine Energy, we share and foster the willingness of the industry to embrace these alternatives as a clear indication of our commitment to a greener, more environmentally responsible future.
ISCC: Pionieering sustainability in the bunker industry
Our International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) demonstrates our commitment to achieving the highest standards of sustainability and product traceability in our operations.
ISCC is a recognized authority in verifying and certifying sustainable practices across various industries, including the bunkering sector. By complying with the ISCC, Fratelli Cosulich Marine Energy ensures that its sustainability efforts are held to rigorous and globally accepted standards and procedures.
We aim to underscore our dedication to adhere to stringent sustainability and carbon requirement standards. As the maritime industry continues to evolve towards a more environmentally responsible future, we at Fratelli Cosulich stand as an example of a company actively driving these positive changes.
Commitment and Sustainability
Bio Fuels
Fratelli Cosulich Marine Energy is implementing physical set-ups to deliver biofuels at different global locations. This is a testament to our dedication to reducing the carbon footprint of bunkering operations and helping shipping companies achieve their GHG emissions reduction goals as well as meeting stringent environmental regulations.
Biofuels are derived from renewable sources, such as crops, algae and organic waste. They are considered a promising solution for reducing the carbon footprint of the shipping industry. Biofuels can be used as drop-in replacements for traditional marine fuels, making it relatively easy for vessels to transition to a more sustainable option. These fuels are known for their lower carbon emissions and are becoming more widely available in the bunker industry. As a result, many shipping companies are exploring biofuels as a means to meet stricter environmental regulations and to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability.
LNG
Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants, making it an attractive choice for ship owners aiming to meet stringent environmental standards. In recent years, it has gained popularity as a cleaner-burning alternative to traditional marine fuels, thus becoming a key player in the transition to a more sustainable industry.
LNG bunker infrastructure is expanding: the adaptability and readiness of LNG technology have positioned it as a viable option for meeting GHG emission reduction goals.
At Fratelli Cosulich Marine Energy, we are proud to be driving such transition and development: having built two LNG bunker barges has put us in a prominent position towards greener shipping practices and demonstrates our commitment to cleaner energy sources.
Fratelli Cosulich's innovative approach to integrating LNG into our operations is a notable step towards environmentally conscious shipping practices.
Ammonia
Ammonia holds great promise as a zero-carbon fuel: when produced using renewable energy sources, its potential to not emit any greenhouse gas emissions makes ammonia particularly appealing among alternative energy sources.
Research and development efforts are underway and, while challenges remain, ammonia is closely watched as a long-term, sustainable solution.
Fratelli Cosulich has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chinese shipyard Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering to build an ammonia bunker barge. This barge will be based on the RINA Approval-in-Principle (AiP) for the design of a 21,000 cubic meter ammonia bunker tanker to be developed by SeaTech Solutions and Fratelli Cosulich Bunkers Singapore.
This agreement represents a milestone as low-to-zero-carbon ammonia deliveries have the potential to support Singapore and the wider shipping industry’s efforts towards decarbonization. With several ammonia dual-fueled newbuilding orders being placed, it is becoming more and more compelling for the shipping industry to have ammonia bunker tankers available to bring the fuel from storage facilities to ships.
Methanol
At Fratelli Cosulich Marine Energy, we strive in leading the way to the segment of fast-tracking alternative marine fuels. In our attempt to always foresee and proactively take action, we are building a methanol bunker barge which will be delivered in 2024, with highly positive prospect to order a second methanol bunker barge.
The barge will be deployed in our operations in the Port of Singapore, the world's largest bunkering port, at the helm of the most important green shipping initiatives.
Methanol, as a bunker fuel, provides significant environmental benefits, as the shipping industry is giving a clear signal that there will be demand for methanol bunkering. Its prospects as a marine energy are improving drastically, particularly in the container shipping segment, as major shipping companies have begun investing in methanol powered ships.
